FAQ

How to get here ?

The main Airport is Male International Airport (MLE). If you like to get picked up from us directly at the airport, just let us know your flight details. Costs are 120 USD each trip, so for all persons arriving in that group in total. Depending on your preference, transfer time is about 1 hour by dhoni, 20 min by speed boat, or by local ferry leaving Male City daily (except Fridays) at 15:00 about 50 min. But we recommend the dhoni transfers to get into the Maldivian way of life.

Even more experiencing the Maldivian way of life is taking the local ferry from Male. You would need to get from the airport to the city of Male and find your way to either Jetty No. 1 or Vilingili Ferry Terminal. There are 2 ferries going to Himmafushi every day at 15:00 (except Fridays), the Province Ferry from Vilingili which also proceeds further North to other local islands, or our recommendation the Himmafushi Ferry from Jetty No. 1 (Presidential Jetty). Both cost 25 MVR (about 2 USD) per person.

Himmafushi Ferry is going back to Male every day (except Fridays) at 8:00 in the morning, reaching Male at about 9:00 when shops open. So this is also a good option for a day trip to see Male and go back with same ferry at 15:00.

What are the costs on Himmafushi ?

Himmafushi is a traditional local island, and so are the prices. There are several small shops and 2 restaurants, all really at affordable rates.

There are also many souvenir shops on the island due to many tourists coming for day visits. Prices can be negociated.

Full Board or Self Catering ?

We have our own kitchen and provide breakfast, lunch and dinner at villa and depending on booking situation also at lodge.

We catch fish on the boat trips and our chef will offer variations of Asian and European cuisine.

Can you drink alcohol on the island ?

Due to the Islamic culture any consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited on Himmafushi. That includes evening hours in cafes, restaurants and also in your accommodation.

We are happy to organize trips to surrounding resorts for meals and/ or drinks. Transfers to the resorts take from 15min up to 45min and are included in the surf package.

What should I bring?

Well, you should definately bring a pair or two of boardshorts, a couple of T-Shirts and the basic set toiletries. Boards might help as well. We have some for rent, but it’s always to bring your onw board, and even better to bring a spare one. Better also to bring some wax and a spare leash as well. And very important is good sun cream, sun is extrem here.

Do I need a Visa ?

You will get a regular tourist visa valid for 30 days at arrival. If you would like to stay longer with us, we can help you with the extension of your visa for up to 90 days total stay.

How can I pay on the island?

There is no ATM on the island, closest at Male airport at your arrival or in Male on a half day trip. The ATMs will only issue local currency Maldivian Rufiya (MVR), which unfortunately can’t be changed back into US Dollar (USD) at any local or international bank.

But the shops on the island and in Male accept USD as well as local currency MVR, and are actually even more happy to see US Dollar. They would mostly even give you a better exchange rate than any bank, so best is to bring US Dollar (USD) in cash from where ever you are coming from.

Any extras in Villa or Lodge during your stay or outstanding room payments can be paid either in cash or by credit card (4% extra charge).

Whats Included; Surf Trips and Packages ?

Included in the surf package are daily 2 surf trips by dhoni to the surrounding breaks (Jails, Honkeys, Sultans) and depending on conditions also north (Cokes, Chickens). All trips will be organised by surf guide and dhoni crew according to the group and guest prefences as well as weather, swell and tides.

Do you offer accommodation for a solo traveller / sharing ?

We have this option for single travelling guests who wouldn’t mind sharing the room for some nights with another single travelling guest. In case we already have or later get another single sharing booking, you would be sharing a room. For the time we don’t have another single sharing booking, you would be lucky to have the room for yourself.

What's the difference between Villa and Lodge ?

Both have about same upper standard, whereas the 4 villa rooms each have a balcony, or the room downstairs a direct access to pool and garden. The Villa also offers an upstairs lounge area for villa guests, and a huge downstairs lounge area with pool and garden access which can also be used by the guests staying the the Lodge.

The Lodge offers 4 spacious rooms, another lounge and spacious garden, and is directly opposite of the villa – just 4m across the sandy street.

Meals will be served either for all guests in villa at the pool, or depending on bookings for lodge guests seperately at the Lodge Terrace.

Surf Trips will be organized by our surf guides together for all Villa and Lodge guests.

What other activities are available ?

There is great snorkelling around the island, and fishing can also be easily organised. Trips to Male are daily possible by local ferry. In the evenings you can join the locals playing football between the palm trees.

We can also offer trips for day or evenings to surrounding resorts. Normally about 100 USD per person including either lunch or dinner at buffet and also drinks on all inclusive basis.

Is there a Hospital on the island ?

Himmafushi has a medical center (small hospital) and a pharmacy for any emergency. In case there is something worst, a speed boat can be quickly orgnaised and about 30 min later you would be already in Male at the hospital.
